OpenMaps App Reviews

Wow, worse than the iOS 6 Maps app

So slow moving the map and search provides worse results than Apples iOS 6 Maps app.

Absolutely terrible

Ugly, complicated and nearly impossible to use. Search results make no sense, routing asks you to pay to unlock but is worthless. Feels more like a Linux tinkertoy project than a mapping app. Theres actually a page of instructions that attempt to explain how to enter start and end points, but the instructions are impossible to follow and completely non-intuitive.

Not bad if you use the right map source

This is a pretty decent app, IF YOU USE THE PROPER MAP SOURCE! What the description doesnt tell you is that there are other map sources available besides OSM. MapQuest is one of those other sources. The map data is OSM, but to me the rendering is much more attractive--and you can download all you want with no hassles. Its a very simple matter to go into "Settings" and change the source. The people who have written the negative reviews obviously did not read the disclaimer provided, which clearly warns of the restrictions when downloading directly from OSM servers. Its not a restriction from this app writer, its a restriction imposed by the OpenStreetMap people. If you dont like it, go argue with them. But dont complain here if you cant read the instructions!

Waste of money

Its a useless app. Never worked correctly ... Waste of money ...

No good.

Nough said. Its no good. Try it... The maps are terrible and take absolutely forever to load. They are grainy and show no local businesses.

Failed maps

Maps are actually fine quality, but you will never use it.. If you have a good Internet connection use Google maps. There is an absurd limit if you want to download some maps to use offline (do not pay for it!). Compass feature is not used here so that you will have troubles orienting on the map.

A good supplement

Apples maps or Googles Maps are fine and dandy for driving from on place to another, but when it comes to looking up bike routes or trails they both tend to fail miserably. Openmaps still provides a nice way to view that sort of info.

Great for Trails

Yes its not Apple or Google maps. Thats not the point. It has what they dont - trails, trails, and more trails. Where google shows nothing but a large white empty space Open shows me single track hiking/biking trails everywhere - even with their name! My local park maps dont even show some of these trails.

Best open street map viewer

Its really best application for walking, traveling in totally unknown city, instead of using google maps or anothers, use this app, only thing you will need is Internet. keep walkin :)

Needs an update...

Under iOS 7, I get constant errors popping up saying it cant load POIs. Also, updates made on OpenStreetMap take a while before they show up in this app.

Don’t get it...

The Maps work fine. Bad - they sell you on a “Download Tool”, for $2, and then all it does is allow these puny downloads, no way to actually have useful map packages downloaded with OSM without tedious downloading.
